Sprinkler Nozzle Input Data

Sprinkler Nozzle Input Data

When we add a Sprinkler to the Boundaries database, we define the Sprinkler Min. and Max. Operating Pressures as shown below.

When we then place a sprinkler node on the Flowsheet, we can define the Exit Pressure from the Input tab of the Data Palette - see image below. So, if the sprinkler were to discharge into a building, the exit pressure is likely to be 1 atm. However, if the sprinkler is discharging into a pressurised vessel, you have the option of defining the discharge pressure of the sprinkler (tank pressure).

Note, the values for "Min Operating Pressure" and "Max Operating Pressure" defined for a sprinkler nozzle in the database relate to the results for stagnation/total pressure at the inlet of the sprinkler and are only used as a basis for enunciating a ...

In sprinkler literature, all pressure losses are defined as total (stagnation) pressure loss. A sprinkler K represents a total pressure loss. FluidFlow uses total pressures and total pressure losses which means the we should be using stagnation ...
    • Defined new fluid in database but can not find on input

The key point here is that, ALL physical properties for the new fluid must be defined in the database. If any rows are left as "undefined" the fluid won't be available to model in a system as all properties must be defined. Let's consider the fluid ...
    • Relief Valves - Turn off auto-sizing and define a vendor relief valve data

When modeling a relief valve, you can set the "Automatically Size" function to OFF and define the relief valve data as shown below. When we then model this relief valve, the flow etc is calculated as shown in the results below:
    • K Value (Input K Value vs Calculated K Value)

Why is the calculated K Value different to the K Value I have defined for the K Node? The difference arises from the change in density of the flowing fluid. Lets look at the example in the image below. The top model is a liquid flow system based on ...
