Core Software Features & Modules

Updated over 2 months ago

What is FluidFlow?

FluidFlow is a comprehensive software solution for fluid flow simulation and analysis used across various industries such as engineering, energy, and environmental sectors for designing and optimizing piping systems.

How does FluidFlow work with regards to the different 'modules'?

FluidFlow operates with integrated modules (Liquid, Gas, Slurry, Two-Phase) within a single software environment, allowing systems with multiple fluid types in one file. No module switching is required - the software automatically detects fluid phases based on operating conditions.

Can I compare multiple design scenarios?

Yes, FluidFlow allows you to compare different design scenarios by saving multiple project files and modifying parameters such as pipe sizes, valve settings, or pump configurations. This helps evaluate system performance under various conditions.

Additionally, it is possible to run multiple simulations and iterate through changes to a single input definition (i.e., inlet pressure) for one or more elements using the Multi Calc feature. See Multi Calc Feature Overview for details.

Does FluidFlow support transient flow analysis?

No. FluidFlow currently supports steady-state analysis only, providing detailed pressure and temperature distribution at fixed operating conditions.

It can be used, however, for simulating simple transient systems. The scripting module of FluidFlow can be used to develop simple dynamic models. However, using the scripting module requires some familiarity with Pascal or BASIC programming. You may check our Scripting Handbook for additional guidance.

Moreover, the Multi Calc feature of FluidFlow can be used to model and investigate simple dynamic behavior of fluid systems. With some additional calculations that you can make using worksheets, this might be something of interest to you. The document below provides an example on this feature.

Can FluidFlow model fluctuating demands and supply points in gas systems?

Yes. You can toggle demand and supply points ON or OFF to simulate equipment or users coming online or going offline. You can also vary flow rates or pressures at any boundary or node to study different operating conditions. For repeated time‑based changes, build a baseline model and automate the sequence using the Scripting Module. See the overview here: Modeling fluctuating demands and supply points in gas systems.

How is FluidFlow verified?

FluidFlow's calculation accuracy is rigorously verified through:

  • Comprehensive testing against published engineering data

  • Validation with real-world operating systems

  • Continuous benchmarking against industry standards

  • An extensive library of Quality Assurance test models that comes installed with the software

Each new software version undergoes thorough benchmarking to ensure consistent reliability and accuracy.

With industry applications dating back to 1984, FluidFlow has evolved through continuous development to incorporate the latest solution technologies, providing engineers with a fast, accurate, and effective pipe flow simulation tool.

Quality Assurance forms the foundation of our development process, ensuring our products meet the highest standards from initial design through final release.

Flite Software NI Ltd maintains ISO9001:2008 certification, demonstrating our commitment to quality management systems.

Can I purchase Slurry on its own without Liquid?

No, you need Liquid in order to be able to do Slurry & non-Newtonian analysis.

Can I purchase Two-Phase on its own?

No, you need Liquid + Gas in order to be able to perform Liquid-Gas Two-Phase analysis.

Do I need to change modules in order to analyze Liquid or Gas flow?

No. Using water as an example, at 20°C, FluidFlow automatically detects it is in the Liquid phase. That same fluid (water) at 190°C is automatically detected as being in the Gas phase.

Is Automatic Equipment Sizing charged as an extra?

No. The Auto-Size feature for pipes and certain equipment comes standard with our solution. Some competitors charge extra for this functionality.

Do I have to pay extra for fluid data or equipment manufacturers data in the software?

No. This is included as standard with over 1280 fluids, which are automatically detected based on the operating conditions of your system.
